As a beginner you should use softboards. They have a soft surface and flexible, less stiff fins which reduce the risk of injury. Softboards are also quite durable and usually a bit cheaper. The ride is still so good that they are surfed even in demanding waves and by good surfers. Softboards have proven themselves in the school and leisure sector for many years.
